Ten reasons to hire a celebrant

Celebrant led weddings are gaining more and more popularity. The ability to tailor your special day based on your personal desires or religious belief has a lot to do with it. Unlike a registrar, a celebrant has the ability to offer a completely bespoke experience.
While a registrar has the power to marry a couple in the eyes of the law, it’s now becoming more popular for couples to choose a celebrant-led wedding, and then detour on a separate day to the registry office to sign the necessary paperwork.

Let’s have a look at 10 reasons why more and more couples are choosing celebrant-led weddings.

1. Get married wherever you want

Because of the legal elements that a registrar will conduct as part of your ceremony, they are only able to marry couples at certain locations. If you’re planning a wedding in a unique location like a beach, a forest or a family residence, a celebrant-led wedding is an alternative solution to make your dream day come true (as long as the owners of the land allow it).

2. Free from stuffy legal language

Unlike a registrar, a celebrant won’t involve stuffy legal language in your wedding ceremony, meaning you can focus on the purpose of your special day - love. A celebrant will also work with you to prepare a tailored ceremony based on your particular wishes. If you have religious, spiritual or personal elements you want to include in your ceremony, your celebrant will be able to make that happen.

3. Unlimited time on the day

Your celebrant will arrive in plenty of time and be with you for as long as you wish on the day. If you’re looking for someone to lead your day, not just your wedding ceremony, a celebrant is the alternative to a registrar.

4. Relaxed and stress-free ceremony

A celebrant cares only about the quality of your ceremony, they won’t be rushing off as soon as the ceremony has concluded. Furthermore, most couples who choose a celebrant-led wedding visit the registry office the morning of or the day before their wedding. This means their wedding ceremony is a more relaxed experience, as they are safe in the knowledge that the legal paperwork is all out of the way.

5. Build a relationships over time

A celebrant is able to offer a tailored experience because they spend time getting to know you as a couple in the lead-up to your special day. This means when your day arrives, they’ll do everything they can to make you feel comfortable and at ease. And you’ll be safe in the knowledge that they know what they are doing.

6. Include personal symbolism

Celebrants have years of experience when it comes to tailoring couples’ weddings. If you are considering a type of symbolism in your wedding but not sure what to go for, your celebrant will help you decide. This could include love letters, a sand ceremony, candles or even hand fastening.

7. Write your own vows

Knowing what to include in their vows is something many couples struggle with. It can be difficult to know how to get feelings down onto paper. Because a celebrant spends time getting to know you as a couple, they often play a big part in helping couples write their vows.

8. You can choose your celebrant

Unlike with a registrar, you can choose the celebrant who will officiate your wedding. When you meet your celebrant, don’t be afraid to ask questions and get to know them to find out if they are the right person for you.

9. Get all your loved ones involved

Unlike a registrar, a celebrant can help involve your family and friends in your wedding ceremony if you wish. As they would have spent time getting to know you, they can help with coming up with creative ways to get your loved ones involved.

10. Celebrants love their job

Celebrants are not just carrying out a job, they love what they do. Unlike a registrar, a celebrant will often conduct their work along-side other responsibilities or their main job. Many choose to be celebrants because they genuinely enjoy helping couples’ special days come to life.
